Wilma Marie Leaders, the daughter of Fred and Clara Edna (Heiman) Fritz was born on September 18, 1921 on her parents family farm west of Oakland, and passed away at Jennie Edmundson Hospital on August 25, 2018 at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 7 days.
Wilma was a life long member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She was baptized on October 16, 1921 by Pastor Otis Lang at the St. Paul country church and was confirmed on June 21, 1936 by Pastor Dahl. Her Confirmation Verse was Rev. 2:10b "Be thou faithful unto death". She graduated from Oakland High School in 1940. She taught school at James Township #7 in 1940 and 1941.
Wilma married Paul W. Leaders of Minden, Iowa on December 28, 1941 in the St. Paul country church. They were married for 68 years until Paul's death in 2010. Paul and Wilma farmed south of Minden, Iowa until 1947, then they moved to the present farm where they lived and farmed until their deaths. She was very active with Paul in farming.
Wilma was very involved in the church; LWML, quilting, soup suppers, homemade ice cream socials, alter guild, a Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible school teacher. During her lifetime she belonged to a book club, Mother's Club, Farm Bureau activities and was a West Nishna Bells 4-H club leader.
Wilma enjoyed gardening, quilting quilts for her family members as well as at church, reading, sewing, ceramics, cooking, crossword puzzles, playing piano, jigsaw puzzles; bur her biggest joy was being with her family. There were many big family dinners at the farm house.
Paul and Wilma enjoyed playing cards, ballroom dancing and square dancing, bowling, family vacations fishing in Minnesota and trips to Estes Park, Colorado. They also enjoyed trips to Canada, Hawaii, and a road trip through Canada to Alaska, bus trips to many parts of the United States, and their month in Europe visiting son Danis while he was in the service.
Wilma is survived by daughters, Patricia Ann (Tim) Adkins of Omaha, AR., and Marilyn Marie (Skip) Kempnich of Iowa City, IA.; and her son, Danis Paul Leaders of Omaha, NE. she is also survived by five grandchildren: Lael Ann (Mike) Herteen and Ryan Michael Parker of Des Moines, IA., Lisa Marie (Neil) Duncan of New Gardens, NY., Brian Paul (MeGan) Kempnich of Clive, IA., and Bradley Nicholas (Elizabeth) Kempnich of Davenport, IA; and great grandchildren: Lillian Herteen, Austin Parker, Drake Parker, Demetrius Kempnich, Gia Kempnich, Saxa Kempnich and Talia Kempnich; and many nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great granddaughter Ada Eve Kempnich, and brother Wayne.
Mom said many times that when it was her time to pass (Thy will be done) she was looking forward to being with her Lord and Savior. Her heavenly room is ready. She heard Jesus voice calling her home to the peace and joy of heaven. We are sad to see mom/grandma/great grandma go but we rejoice that she is home with Christ Jesus; and awaits the second coming of our Lord.
Funeral service for Wilma will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oakland, IA. Visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Interment will be by Paul at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland. The Rieken Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family with the arrangements.
