Ella "Lu" Merritt, the daughter of Ogden Sherwood and Ella Malinda (Petersen) Mundorf, was born September 1, 1937 in Pottawattamie County. She died April 11, 2018, at her home in Council Bluffs, IA, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 10 days.
Lu attended school at Griswold and was a member of the class of 1955. On October 6, 1955, she was united in marriage to Willis L. Merritt. Two children were born to this union, Shellie Lue and Willis Wade. They lived in Griswold where they ran MerrGro Farm Supply until they sold the plant in 1978. Lu continued to stay active and most recently worked for Direct Contact Inc., as a Data Auditor, from 2000 until 2014. Lu had recently moved to Council Bluffs from Atlantic.
Lu was a member of the Griswold Central Church of Christ. She had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Griswold Country Club. Lu enjoyed watching sports, especially Iowa State basketball and football; also enjoyed watching hockey and Fox News. Lu especially loved her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Willis on March 6, 2015; her son Willis Wade; her brothers: Edwin, Everett, Calvin, and Neil Mundorf; her sisters: Eloise (Mel) Perdue, Hazel Futrell, Shirley Thomas, Dorothy Mae Mundorf; her half-brother Clayton Mundorf, Logan Mundorf; brothers-in-law, Glenn Kirchhoff, Merlin Merritt, and Ray Selders.
She is survived by her daughter Shellie Lue Steffen of Council Bluffs (friend Mike Casey); her daughter-in-law Theresa Merritt of Kansas City, MO; her grandchildren: Steven Steffen (fiancé Erinn Brue), Dustin Steffen (Tiffany), and Matt Steffen; her great grandson Brian Hungerford; her step-daughter Catherine Hankemeier of Council Bluffs and step-grandchildren: Scott Jensen, Teresa Harris and Amanda Montykowski; her brother Larry Mundorf (Linda); her sister Mary Ann Kirchhoff; her sisters-in-law, Fran Mundorf, Phyllis Mundorf, Wilma Selders, Frances Cupples; and her brothers-in-law, Dean Merritt and Curtis Merritt (Nancy). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
