William Charles O'Dell, the son of Raymond Lee and Geraldine Jean (Hilliard) O'Dell, was born July 6, 1960 in Red Oak, IA. He died at his home in Elliott, IA on February 10, 2017 at the age of 56 years, 7 months, and 4 days.
William attended school at Griswold, graduating from Griswold High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army, where he became a helicopter mechanic. After being discharged, he returned to Iowa where he worked at several different jobs. He then moved to Arizona, where he continued his career as a helicopter mechanic. William lived in Arizona and Kansas, before returning to Iowa. On April 10, 2007, he was united in marriage to Carmen Vance in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in Elliott and William continued to work as a helicopter mechanic for several different places, most recently Air2.
William was a member of the Griswold Central Church of Christ. He enjoyed panning for gold, metal detecting, watching football, flying mini helicopters and drones, coin collecting, and his dogs. William was known for his big heart and his love of animals. He always had a large garden and enjoyed being self-sufficient.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carman; his brother Ryan; and his father Raymond.
He is survived by his mother Gerry O'Dell of Griswold; his brother Shannon O'Dell and wife Debora of Griswold; his step sons: Jerry Vance, Curtis Vance, and Christopher Vance; his nephew Ian O'Dell; and his honorary brother Mike Smith.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Griswold Central Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Flint Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
