William "Bill" James Waggoner, Sr., the son of Cecil and Wilda (McGuire) Waggoner, was born November 26, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He died May 16, 2017, at his home in Oakland, Iowa, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 20 days.
Bill attended Fort Dodge Community Schools in Fort Dodge graduating with the High School Class of 1955. After graduation, he moved to Chicago where he was employed as a tree trimmer and worked at Goodyear Tire for several years before moving back to Fort Dodge. He was then employed at the Hormel Plant in Fort Dodge for a few years before making his home in Harlan, Iowa where he worked at American Beef in Oakland for several years.
On March 26, 1982, he was united in marriage to Cheryl McConeghey at the Harlan United Methodist Church in Harlan. In December of 1983, they made their home in Oakland where he was employed at Marcotte Insurance in Omaha selling insurance until he retired in 1994. After retirement, he enjoyed driving school buses for the Riverside Community School District until he fully retired in 2014.
Bill was a member of the Carson United Methodist Church in Carson. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Oakland. Bill and his family enjoyed traveling to their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks where he never gave up the opportunity to be driving the boat. But most of all he loved to spend time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ron and Wilda Scott; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Lois McConeghey; his sisters: Carol Phipps, Genie Risley, and Becki Danielson.
Bill is survived by his wife Cheryl Waggoner of Oakland; his children: Bill Jr. and wife Mary Waggoner of Oakland, Vicky Waggoner-Mumm and Doug Mumm both of Woodbine, Iowa, Ronnie and wife Karla Waggoner of Denver, Colorado; his niece who was like a daughter to him Anne and husband Chuck Wernett of Marion, Iowa; his grandchildren: Tommy Holzer and Jacque Holzer both of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Nicholle and husband Jesse Kalb of Treynor, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Hayden, Camden, Lincoln, Maverrick, Oakkley, Bayylor; his brothers: Danny and wife Judy Waggoner of Appleton, Wisconsin, Bob and wife Sheri Scott of Los Alamos, New Mexico; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John and wife Kathy McConeghey of Oakland, Kevin McConeghey of Zurich, Kansas, Stephanie and husband Bryce Behrens of Treynor, Dudley Risley of Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Carson United Methodist Church in Carson with Pastor Brody Tubaugh officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday morning from 9:00 A.M. until time of the Memorial Service at the Carson United Methodist Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
