William "Bill" Carpenter, 68, of Atlantic, IA, died Saturday afternoon, June 9, 2012, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.

William Michael Joseph Carpenter was born on May 22, 1944 at Santa Monica, California the son of William and Irene (Morris) Carpenter. The family moved to the Omaha area when Bill was 4 years old and he attended schools in Omaha. At first, he owned and operated his own body shop and he then went to work for Western Electric and worked on the electric cable line. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves, did his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and served with them for 6 years. Bill moved to the Atlantic area in 1988. On June 28, 1999 he married Nancy Kay Willms Green at Atlantic. Bill had been a resident of Atlantic Nursing and Rehab for the last nearly two years. Bill enjoyed cooking and was very good at it, and liked to watch drag racing.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of Atlantic, sons: Scott Carpenter of Chattanooga, TN, Jeff Carpenter of Omaha, NE, and Chris Green of Atlantic; daughters: Angela Butler of Kimballton, IA, Danielle Green Ward of Lewis, IA and Andrea Duran of Coon Rapids, IA. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda Felt and three additional siblings in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Whipple Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the funeral home and the family will meet friends beginning at 12:30 prior to the services.
