William "Bill" Bernard Casey, the son of James Patrick and Lula Irene (Curry) Casey, was born January 8, 1914 on the family farm south of Griswold, IA. He died March 8, 2016 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, IA at the age of 102 years and 2 months.

Bill attended Harrison Country School #7 until the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm until December 8, 1941 when he enlisted in the Air Force. Bill was stationed in Nome, AK and served his country in the Asiatic Pacific during WWII before moving to Tennessee for his final two years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Griswold where he continued farming with his family. Bill was united in marriage to Marie Lucille Mertens in 1953. Three children were born to this union: Richard, Colleen, and Becky. Bill and Marie continued to farm until 2010 when they moved to Ida Grove, IA to be closer to their daughter Becky.

Bill loved flying. He had learned to fly while being stationed in Tennessee and continued that love when he returned to Iowa. He and his brothers became members of the Flying Farmers of America and flew whenever they could. Bill enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, and golf. He learned to waterski when he was 64. He was a member of the Griswold American Legion Post and the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Carl, Earl, Joe, and Frank; and his sisters Marie and Annabelle.

He is survived by his wife Marie of Ida Grove, IA; his children: Richard Casey of Portland, OR, Colleen Peach and husband Kevin of Shelton, WA, and Becky Matthies and husband Dan of Ida Grove, IA; his grandchildren: Lori (Jason), Jenny, Katherine, Jacob (fiancée Saige), Jordan, and Joie; his great grandchildren; Hannah, Laylah, and Mason; and his brother Donald Casey and wife LaDeane of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold, IA. A Rosary will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday evening at 5:00 PM. Visitation with the family will follow the Rosary until 7:00 PM. Interment will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
