Wayne Eugene Colvin
Wayne Eugene Colvin, the son of Joseph Hale and Elva Arlene (Howlett) Colvin, was born March 14, 1935 at Hancock, IA and died August 5, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 22 days.
Wayne graduated from Carson High School with the class of 1953. He entered the Army in 1957, where he served his country until 1959. While in the Army he earned a sharpshooter medal and a good conduct medal. On June 11, 1961 Wayne was united in marriage to Mary Lou Howard. Four children were born to this union: Mary, Dawn, Paula and Valerie. They lived near Oakland and Hancock before moving southeast of Oakland. They lived on the farm until 2001 when they moved in to town.
Wayne was known as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed going fishing in Canada. Wayne was a steward of the land, and didn't farm to make a living, but farming was his life.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Colvin of Oakland, IA; his daughters: Mary Waggoner and husband Bill, JR. of Oakland, IA, Dawn Royalty and husband RT of Council Bluffs, IA, Paula Kadlec and husband Larry of Frederick, CO, and Valerie Buchholz and husband Jeff of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren: Robert Samson, Tonya Samson, Renee McManigal and husband Zachary, Nicholle Kalb and husband Jesse, and Zane Buchholz; his step grandchildren: Brian and Eric Kadlec; four great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and his sisters and brothers: Bonnie Lytle, Dick Colvin, Diane Hamilton and husband Steve, and Steve Colvin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
