WAYNE BIVENS


Wayne Marvin Bivens, the son of Bert and Helen (Smith) Bivens, was born January 6, 1937 near Fairmont, NE and died October 8, 2012 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 2 days.


Wayne moved to Walnut, IA at a young age. He attended school at Walnut and graduated from Walnut High School. After graduating, Wayne worked at several different jobs before becoming a full time truck driver. On September 21, 1990 he was united in marriage to Ellen Bentley at Council Bluffs. Wayne retired from trucking full time in the early 1990's. He and Ellen lived in Hancock until the time of his death


Wayne was very active in the city of Hancock, and had served as both the Mayor and on the city council for twenty years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, watching football, and visiting with people.


Wayne is survived by his loving wife Ellen of Hancock; his daughter Tracie Bivens (John Wood) of Indianola; and his sister Pat Butler (Larry) of Boulder City, NV. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.


Wayne is preceded in death by his son Marty, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday evening from 6-8 at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
