Walter LeRoy Bice, the son of Rolland Earl and Meredith Irene (Cannon) Bice, was born March 9, 1933 in Hebron, NE. He died October 8, 2015 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 20 days.
Walter lived in Carleton, NE until January of 1942, when his family moved to Lewis, IA. He attended school in Lewis, graduating from Lewis High School with the class of 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on July 24, 1952. On February 21, 1954 he was united in marriage to Dolores Bea Hancock at the Lewis Methodist Church. After serving his country during the Korean War, Walter was honorably discharged from the Air Force on July 23, 1956. He returned to Lewis and helped his father on the farm. Walter and Dolores purchased their current farm several years later. He spent 36 years farming and also worked for Griswold Nitrogas from 1992 until 1998.
Walter was a member of the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church and had been a very active member of Griswold American Legion Post #508. He had also served on the Cass County Extension Council for 11 years.
He is preceded in death by his son Jerry on March 18, 2014; his mother Meredith in 1991; his father Rolland in 1997; his son-in-law Russell Bradburn; and his sister Eleanor in 1936.
He is survived by his wife Dolores Bice of Griswold, IA; his children: Debra Bradburn, Keith Bice and wife Brenda, Karla Piersol and husband Jim, and Lana Thompson; his grandchildren: Eric Bice and wife Lacey, Jennifer Osten and husband Corey, Adam Bice and wife Kari, Kimberly Bradburn, Kristie Bradburn, Brandon Thompson, and Tasha Thompson; his great grandchildren: Eli Osten, Parker Osten, Hadley Osten, Josalyn Bice, Adrian Bice, and Olivia Bice; his sister Sandra Jean Klinkefus and husband Greg; and his brother Earl Duane Bice and wife Susan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
