Thomas John Good
Thomas John Good, the son of George Bernard and Theresa Helen (Weldon) Good, was born October 8, 1927 in Waveland Township near Griswold, IA and died December 4, 2013 at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, IA at the age of 86 years, 1 month, and 27 days.
Tom was raised on the family farm and attended Rosehill School for eight years. Tom's Grandmother Rose had been named after this school. Tom served in the Army from January 7, 1955 until December of 1956. On April 12, 1986 Tom was united in marriage to Lyla Christensen Elmquist at St. Paul's Church in Atlantic, IA. Tom farmed for 58 years until having a stroke in August of 2001. He continued to remain on the farm for the next eleven years, with the dedicated care of his wife, Lyla. Tom moved to Odeboldt Nursing and Rehab in June of 2012. He lived there until the time of his death.
Tom was a true farmer, and loved everything about it. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends, reading, and watching the History Channel.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Joe Good and wife Marge; and his sisters: Frances Good, Agnes Good, Mary Jo Dermody and husband Phil, Ethel Hines and husband Paul, and Dorothy Stuvick.
Tom is survived by his wife Lyla of Odeboldt, IA; his step children: Marsha Schaeuble and husband Terry of Odeboldt, IA and their children: Desiree, Danielle, and Alex, Brian Elmquist and wife Jodie of Stanton, IA and their children: Dakota, Keaton, Jade, Paige, and Trey, and Rhonda Elmquist and her friend Jim Fleming of Denison, IA; and his brother-in-law Don Stuvcick of Norton, KS. Tom is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. An open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home from 5-7 PM on Monday. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Neola. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
