Sylvia was born January 1, 1947 in Cracow, Poland, the oldest of 3 Siblings. She spent over a decade practicing medicine in Poland, most of that time she lived in Zakopane in the Tatra mountains of southern Poland.

In 1980, she followed her parents to Meknes, Morocco, taking her two sons, from a previous marriage. There, she headed the hospital's Department of Internal Medicine.

A little over a year later, she had an opportunity to move to the US, and arrived in Omaha, NE in September 1981, once again with her boys. She met Richard Charles Witt and they married on May 6, 1983.

She joined the Department of Allergies at Creighton as a research assistant while working hard to learn English and studying diligently for her US Medical Exams. She passed her medical boards on the first try and in 1984, became a resident in family practice at University Medical Center. After 3 years there, she became a staff physician at Health America/Maxicare, working in both Omaha and Lincoln. She then joined Midwest Minor Medical in November 1988, launching a nearly 20 year career there. In 2000 when MMM became an independent entity, she was one of the 5 physicians who became a co-owner and joined the board of directors before retiring in 2007.
