Shirley Naomi Wilson
Shirley Naomi Wilson, daughter of Robert and Myrta (Parker) Miller, was born September 4, 1915 at Oakland, IA and died October 18, 2011 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 96 years, 1 month, and 14 days.
Shirley attended school at Oakland and graduated with the class of 1933. She attended Normal Training, and taught country school for three years. On August 4, 1937 she was united in marriage to James Wilson. Two children were born to this union, Jan and Deb. James died March 7, 1991. Shirley continued to live in Oakland and maintained her own home until 2007, when she moved to the Oakland Heights Assisted Living.
Shirley was an active member of the Oakland Christian Church since 1947, a sixty year member of P.E.O. , a sixty-five year member of the M.W.M. Federated Club, and had volunteered at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home for over 32 years. Shirley loved being with her family and was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and her memory will remain in the hearts of her family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother Ross Miller and wife Leta and her sisters Opal Leaders and husband Horace, Carrie Killion and husband Les, Ruby McRory and husband Reid, and Mildred Bolton and husband Dale.
She is survived by her sons Jan Wilson and wife Phyllis of Fort Dodge, IA and Deb Wilson and wife Peggy of Steger, IL; her grandchildren: Jodi Olson and husband Rick of Yorktown, VA, Brad Wilson and wife Allison of St Joseph, MI, Merisa Wilson of Norman, IL, Edward Wilson and wife Laney of Chicago, IL; and her five great grandchildren: Luke and Alex Wilson, and Nicholas and Jonathan Olson, Olivia Wilson. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home on Thursday until noon and then at the Oakland Christian Church starting at 1:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Oakland Christian Church. Memorials may be donated to the Oakland Christian Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
