Shirley Nell (Kindhart) Walker was born June 21, 1934, to Homer Grant and Opal Marie (Smith) Kindhart in Council Bluffs, IA.  She passed away at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, IA, on October 28, 2021, at the age of 87 years.

Shirley grew up in rural Oakland and attended country school until the eighth grade.  She graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1952.  Shirley was united in marriage to Bernard Dale Walker in May of 1953.  Six children were born to this union:  Pamela, Peggy, Patsy, Penny, Douglas Dale, and Jeffrey.

For many years, Shirley worked for Oakland/Riverside schools as a cook and custodian.  She enjoyed seeing the kids, and often regretted her retirement, saying the kids kept her young.

The highlight of her days was when grandchildren and great grandchildren would come to visit.  She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sports and school activities.

Shirley was a member of the Oakland Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School to the preschool age children for many years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Bernard; daughter Pamela; son Douglas Dale; grandson Alex; great granddaughter Alaina; brother Donald Kindhart; nine brothers-in-law; and eight sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her daughters: Peggy Bentley (Lyle), Patsy Walker (Rodney Teegarden), and Penny Anderson (Mitchell); her son Jeff Walker (Mikey); eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; son-in-law Terry McClain (Gladys); and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 1:30 PM, at the Oakland Christian Church.  Interment will be in the Belknap Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Monday, November 1, 2021, at the Oakland Christian Church, from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM.  Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
