Roberta Alice Beaty, the daughter of Walter and Mary (Dungan) Hough, was born May 21, 1926 on the family farm in Oakland, IA.  She died May 15, 2018 at Prairie Meadows Care Center in Omaha, NE at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 24 days.

Roberta attended country school in Center Township and went on to graduate from Oakland High School in 1943.  She took normal training while in high school and began teaching in the country school the following fall.  She had many fond memories to share of her days teaching and she had a lot of students that testified that she was a great teacher.

A young man, by the name of Andy Beaty, came from southeastern Iowa to help her father on the farm.  Lo and behold, they fell in love and were married in the family farmhouse on August 8, 1948 (which was also Andy's birthday).  They moved down the road a bit but eventually moved back to the family farm in 1961 when her folks moved into town.  They raised their three children on the farm.

Andy passed away in 1972 leaving Roberta a young widow.  She remained on the farm with Dennis and Karen after his death.  She worked hard on the farm raising lots of chickens and planting a big garden and canning and freezing all the bounty from her labor.  She loved to share the fruits of her labor with friends and family.

In 1981, Roberta left the family farm when her son got married.  She moved into town with her mother.  She continued to help out on the farm and raise a garden and took care of her mother until she passed away at the age of 101.  Roberta was a faithful caregiver to her mom all those years.

Roberta was a faithful member of the Oakland Christian Church for many years.  She baked a ton of angel food cakes to be sold in the church's booth at the farmer's market and made lots of dishes for funerals at the church over the years.

Roberta enjoyed attending all of her kid's and grandkid's activities and family events.  She loved her family dearly and cared for each one the same.  They all have special memories of their time with Grandma Berta.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Andy, her parents and brother, Lloyd, and his wife, Mildred.

Roberta is survived by her children: Virgil and wife Carol of Omaha, NE, Dennis and close companion Patti Challifaux of Council Bluffs, IA, and Karen Ramsey and husband Doyle of Des Moines, IA; her grandchildren (spouses):  Chris Beaty, Laura (Trent) Schmidt, Melissa Beaty, Michelle (Mark) Rasmussen, Megan (Matt) John, Nicholas Beaty, Andrea (Travis) Stewart, Alyssa (Micah) Meyer and Austin Ramsey; and 15 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland, IA.  Visitation with the family will be on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 12:30 PM until the time of the funeral service.  Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland.  Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
