Robert Charles Putnam

Robert "Bob" Charles Putnam, the son of Roy and Violett (Huffman) Putnam, was born December 2, 1940 at Lincoln, NE and died June 15, 2010 at his home in Oakland at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 13 days.

Bob moved to Oakland when he was five years old. He attended school at Oakland and graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1959. He married Virgina Turner and they had two children: David Scott and Michael Roy. On November 20, 1975 Bob was united in marriage to Susan Schroder at Las Vegas, NV. Their son Chad was born on April 22, 1977. Bob farmed for over 40 years and had attended Iowa Western Community College where he received a diploma for welding. Bob also worked for Barry Palmer and Phil Reed at P.R. Enterprise for 15 years. Bob lived at Oakland and had stayed active on his farm until several days ago when his health seriously began to fail.

Bob enjoyed camping, boating, riding snow mobiles and his jet skis. Bob especially enjoyed tractor pulls, where he had competed and placed 1st in many contests.

Bob is preceded in death by his son Chad Charles Putnam on July 26, 2008, and his parents.

He is survived by his wife Susan of Oakland; his children Dave Putnam and Mike Putnam; his grandchildren Michelle Meyers and husband Shayne and Miranda Putnam; and great granddaughter Evalynn Belle; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Nancy Schroder of Carson, IA. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.



Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland. Visitation with the family will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Friday. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
