Robert James Needham, the son of Wendell Ward and Pauline June (Felton) Needham, was born October 15, 1958 in Council Bluffs, IA. He died April 13, 2016 at Specialty Care in Omaha, NE at the age of 57 years, 5 months, and 29 days.
Robert lived on his great grandfather's farm northwest of Neola, IA before moving with his family to the Hancock area. He attended school at Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1977. After graduating, he worked at American Beef and helped his father farm. In 1994, he moved to Malmo, NE. Robert worked as a maintenance man at Cargill Meat Solutions until his retirement several years ago.
Robert loved farming, fishing, watching movies, and cats. He especially enjoyed being around and inspiring his nieces and nephews.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
He is survived by his brother Dale Needham and wife Vernalyn of Oakland, IA; his sister Vicki Dauel and husband William of Malmo, NE; his nieces and nephews: Tracy Van Zee and husband Kermit of Oakland, IA, Julie Needham of Oakland, IA, Bradley James Needham and special friend Katie Eggers of Oakland, IA, Ryan Ward Dauel of Malmo, NE, and Anna Rose Dauel of Malmo, NE; his great nieces, Meredith and Madeline Van Zee of Oakland, IA; and his "adopted sisters", Lori Teachou of Tennet, IA and Sherry Welch of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Fairview Cemetery west of Oakland. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
