Obituary

Robert L. Lamb, 80, of Elliott, IA, died Sunday morning, November 22, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.

Robert LaVerne Lamb was born at Allendale, MO on June 29, 1929 the son of Edgar Glee and Ocle Florene (Staton) Lamb. He attended schools in Allendale and high school in Grant City, MO graduating in 1946. While in high school he started working for Railsback & Boulton Construction Co. in Grant City. He joined the U S Army and served overseas nearly one year as a Crane-Shovel Operator during the Korean War. He transferred to the Army Reserves, attained the rank of SGT and was honorably discharged on September 27, 1956. On September 5, 1952, he married Gayle Darlene Shipps at St. Joseph, MO. In the early years of their marriage, they lived several places as Bob worked construction. In 1959 they moved to Elliott such that Bob could remove and rebuild the bridge over the Nishnabotna River on Highway 48 near Elliott following the flood. He continued to work heavy construction all of his life building bridges, culverts and heavy demolition. He also hauled grain for a number of years. Bob was a member of American Legion Post #508 of Griswold.

Survivors include his wife Gayle of Elliott, his two sons Wesley Lamb and wife Candice of Adel, IA, and Dale (Bim) Lamb of Griswold; his two daughters, Kathy Lamb and companion Bert Anderson of Griswold and Nancy Gilleland and husband Lewis of Elliott; his seven grandchildren and his 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his two brothers Garland Lamb of St. Joseph, MO and Nathan Lamb of Des Moines and his four sisters, Dorothy Rush of St. Joseph, Retha Moutray of Kansas City, MO, Roberta Farmer of Clarinda, IA and Martha Andrews and husband Ron of Clear Lake, IA, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, his brothers Rex Lamb and Gerald (Jerry) Lamb and his sisters Lloyt Dunkeson Bressler and Marjorie Plumb.

Cremation has taken place and no memorial service is planned. The family will have a Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Elliott Community Building from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the Lamb family with arrangements.
