Obituary

Robert Wendell Hackett, JR.
Robert Wendell Hackett, the son of Robert and Mazie (Engleman) Hackett, was born July 27, 1934 at Oakland, IA and died April 9, 2010 at his home East of Oakland, IA at the age of 75 years.

Robert attended school at Oakland, graduating with the class of 1952. After graduating, he entered the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Georgia and Colorado. After being discharged, Bob returned to Oakland. On March 16, 1962 he was united in marriage to Nancy Buckmaster in Council Bluffs, IA. They moved to Tulsa, OK where Bob pursued a career in aviation before returning to Oakland to help with the family farm. Bob continued farming until he retired at the age of 62.

Bob loved and enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Canada and taking his boat out on Eagle lake for some walleye and northern pike fishing. He was introduced to flying airplanes at an early age and quickly discovered he had a natural talent and a lifelong passion for aviation. He flew several small aircraft, and after he stopped flying, he spent time with friends flying radio controlled airplanes, some of which he'd built himself. Bob was also a member of the State of Iowa Aeronautics Commission. Bob had an appreciation of good food and especially enjoyed a great steak, lobster, ice cream, popcorn, and walleye.

He is survived by his daughters: Brenda Hackett of Houston, TX, Diane Gray of Glenwood, IA, Shelly Martin and husband Rocky of Omaha, NE, and Laurie Geller and husband Corey of Vancouver, WA; and his grandchildren Jordan, Nathanael, Emma, and Henry.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Connie.
