Rita Rae Henningsen, the daughter of Wilbert John and Alberta Cecelia (Kohlscheen) Breckerbaumer, was born September 1, 1941 in Atlantic, IA. She died May 13, 2016 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE at the age of 74 years, 8 months, and 12 days.
Rita attended school at Lewis, graduating from Lewis High School with the class of 1959. On June 28, 1959 she was united in marriage to Daryl Henningsen at the Lewis Methodist Church. Two children were born to this union, Kirk and Breck. They lived several places before settling on the "home place" east of Oakland. Rita helped in all aspects of farming and later in her life worked as a travel agent. Rita and Daryl moved from the farm in to Oakland 20 years ago.
Rita was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, watching them play sports, and teaching them new card games. She enjoyed music, dancing, riding horses, cooking, gardening, and playing cards with the neighborhood club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her step father Dale Tanner, her nephew John Breckerbaumer, her parents-in-law, Wilbert and Hazel Henningsen, and her brother-in-law Lee Marshall.
She is survived by her husband Daryl of Oakland; her sons Kirk Henningsen of Griswold and Breck Henningsen and wife Robin of Walnut; her grandchildren: Austin Henningsen, Travis Henningsen, and Joel Henningsen, Dusty Nelson and wife Lesley, Dakota Nelson and wife Felicia, and Dane Nelson and wife Beth; her great grandson Ryker and another one on the way; her brother Randall Breckerbaumer and wife Sharon; her sister Pat Marshall Burke and husband Ron; her step sisters Rita Slankerd and husband John and Donnis Scwankae and husband Larry; her cousin Sid Rossell; her nieces Jan Mueller and husband Kent, Melissa Wilson and husband Rick, Angie Acker and husband Brian, and Suzie Kridelbaugh and husband John. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Private family interment will take place before the memorial service. Open visitation will be held at the Oakland United Methodist Church on Sunday starting at 2:00 PM. The family will be present from 5-7 PM. A memorial fund has been established in Rita's name. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
