Obituary

Richard Rudig, 75, of Council Bluffs, IA, formerly of Griswold and Walnut, IA, died Sunday morning, December 7, 2008 at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs.

Richard Daniel Rudig was born at Griswold, IA, on September 30, 1933, the son of Albert and Emma (Rawlings) Rudig. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1952. He entered the military and spent 4 years in the Air Force and 4 years in the Marines, most of the time in Japan. At his discharge, he returned and lived in Omaha where he worked as a bartender at the airport. He lived in California and Denver before returning to Griswold in the mid 1970's where he and his friend Chuck McKnight operated the Truck Stop Café on the east side of Griswold and operated Chuchards Steak House in downtown Griswold. They moved to Walnut, IA, and operated the Anytime Inn for 14 years before moving to Council Bluffs where he was employed working in the food and beverage department at Harrah's Entertainment until his health failed this past summer. Richard had many talents; among them was being a perfectionist in whatever he did as well as being an accomplished musician in piano and organ.

His parents, his brother Dale, his sisters-in-law Kathy and Jadene Rudig, his brothers-in-law Bill Courcier and Earl Richards and his nephew Steve Rudig preceded Richard in death.

Survivors include his longtime friend and business partner, Chuck McKnight of Council Bluffs, his sisters, Anna Mae Courcier of Griswold and Yvonne Richards of Broken Bow, NE, and his brothers Albert of Omaha, Dennis (Linda) of Anacortes, WA, and Stanley (Kristi) of Deming, WA as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at 2:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Griswold Cemetery. Open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home however the family will not be present at any specific time.
