Obituary

Randall "Randy" John Tye, the son of John Elmer and Patricia Faye (Johnson) Tye, was born November 11, 1951 in Creston, IA and died January 4, 2015 in Des Moines, IA, at the age of 63 years, 1 month, and 23 days.

Randy graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until being honorably discharged in 1973. On May 22, 1971 he was united in marriage to Marilyn "Marty" Auxier at Noble Center Church south of Lyman. Two children were born to this union, Sean and Stacy. They farmed near Grant for several years before Randy started working for the Post Office in Omaha, as a mail handler. Randy later went on to become the Postmaster in Griswold. He retired in 2005. Randy and Marty moved to Ames, IA in November.

Randy was a member of the Griswold American Legion, had been a Montgomery County Supervisor, drove a bus for the Griswold School District, had served on the Griswold School Board, and had been a member of Rotary Club. He enjoyed golfing and camping. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents.

Randy is survived by his wife Marty of Ames, IA; his son Sean Tye and wife Nikki of Deerfield, IL and their children Peter and Randi; and his daughter Stacy Williams and husband Derek of Nevada, IA and their children Fletcher and Harrison; his brothers, Gary Tye and wife LaDonna of Red Oak, IA, Dan Tye of Des Moines, IA; and his sister Laurie Williams and husband LeRoy of Winchester, KY. Randy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2014 at 1:30
PM at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will
be Thursday morning at the church from 10:30 AM until noon. Interment will
be at Whipple Cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of
arrangements.
