Phyllis Steffen, 87, of Griswold, IA died late Wednesday evening, May 15, 2013 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Phyllis Elizabeth Cable was born on March 1, 1926 north of Griswold, the daughter of Harry and Goldie Leah (Barnes) Cable. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1945 and on January 8, 1946 was married to Calvin Gail Steffen at the Lutheran parsonage in Griswold. They farmed around Griswold – first living southeast of town and then then west of town. Phyllis was a homemaker and sold Amway and Nature's Sunshine Products. They farmed until 1988 and moved to town in 1996. She entered the care center in 2006. Phyllis was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church and a charter member of TOPS (take off pounds sensibly).

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Calvin on April 29, 2012; her son Larry Gail in 1948 and another son in 1963; her brother Furnis Cable; and her sisters May Delle Buss and Odessa Drake and a very special person - Sue Tanner.

Survivors include her sons Randy (wife Connie) of Griswold and Garry (wife Monica) of Riverview, FL, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Virginia Steffen of Griswold and her brother-in-law Bill Knuckles of Spokane, WA.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church in Griswold. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold from 2-4 PM. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
