Phyllis Elaine Clark

Phyllis Elaine Clark, the daughter of Roy and Mabel (Hetrick) Coleman, was born near Oakland on October 4, 1921 and died December 2, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs at the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 28 days.

Phyllis graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1938. After graduation she taught school, worked as a hired hand for a local family, and then was employed at Keenan's Paint Store in Council Bluffs. On April 24, 1943 she was united in marriage to Cloyd Harold Clark in Council Bluffs. After the war, they returned to the family farm until they moved to town in 1981, when their son Russell returned to Oakland to farm. Phyllis continued to live in Oakland after Cloyd's death in 2006, and maintained her own home, until recently when failing health caused her to move to Oakland Manor.

Phyllis was a lifetime member of the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church, where she had been very active in all aspects of church life. She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles, camping, and traveling. Phyllis especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Cloyd and her son Russell.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Rozan Pedersen and her husband Randy and Kyle Rose and her husband Dan, all of Wayne, NE; her daughter-in-law Joyce Clark of Oakland, IA; seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; her sister Mary Toombs and husband Ralph; her brother Lyle Coleman; and her sister-in-law Leona Coleman. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church. Rev. Michael Harvey Officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church on Sunday from 3-5 PM. Interment will be at the Belknap Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church or ALS
