Obituary

Phyllis Marlene Beebe, 69, of Griswold, IA, died Saturday morning, February 7, 2009, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Phyllis was born February 16, 1939 on the family farm near Cumberland, IA to Edward and Iona (Tietz) Hartmann. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Church near Lyman. Phyllis attended Sunnyside Country School and then graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1956. After graduating, she attended cosmetology school in Des Moines. She returned to Lyman where she worked at a local grocery before opening her own beauty shop in the basement of her house. On July 2, 1967 she was united in marriage to Richard Leroy Beebe at Maryville, MO. She continued to run her shop and even in later years worked part time for Lyman Produce. Several years ago, failing health caused her to retire.

Phyllis loved bowling. She would bowl several times a week, and had bowled on the A.J. Farm Team for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, picking strawberries, watching the Food Network and NASCAR, and traveling to Arizona to visit friends.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Richard on February 23, 2000; her parents; and her brother LeRoy.

Survivors include her children: Dell Beebe and wife Carol of Griswold, IA, Randy Beebe and wife Tiffany of Griswold, IA; Brian Beebe and wife Angela of Oakland, IA, Anna Evans and husband George of Atlantic, IA, Richard Beebe and wife Rosemarie of Sioux Falls, SD, and Shauna Laber and husband Gene of Harlan, IA; 24 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and her brother Lyle Hartmann and wife Carolyn of Cumberland, IA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 1:30 PM at St. John's Cemetery south of Lyman. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or viewing at the funeral home. Friends may visit with the family at St. John's Church immediately following the services at the cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
