Pearl Weston, 88, of Griswold, IA, died Wednesday morning, May 2, 2012 at Jennie-Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA.
Pearl Elaine Williams was born at Hancock, IA, on December 7, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Lena Christina (Johnk) Williams. She attended schools in Oakland, IA and graduated from high school there in 1942. On May 26, 1946 she married Gerald John Weston at the Catholic Church in Atlantic. IA. They lived at Griswold and Pearl was a wife and mother first, but occasionally would take on a job here or there for some extra spending money. She worked for Eveready Battery in Red Oak, the Chuckwagon, and managed the Legion Club in Griswold. After her kids were in school, she drove school bus for the Griswold Community Schools for 16 years.
Survivors include her children: Lea Ann (Mark) Beltz of Cedar Rapids, IA; Lorna Hesebeck of Anita, IA; Larry (Connie) Weston and Lee (Kathy) Weston both of Griswold; her 16 grandchildren, her 30 great-grandchildren, and her 4 great-great-grandchildren as well as her brother and sister-in-law Earl (Jackie) Williams of Oakland, IA. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law whom Pearl thought of as her own brothers and sisters: Moyne (Pat) of Niles, MI; John (Ferrie) of Sherrard, IL; Roy (Nancy) of Jordan, NY; Larry (Patty) of Andalusia, IL; and Doug (Lynn) of Audubon, IA; Connie (Marion) Plumb of Underwood, IA, Jane Weston of Toponas, CO, and Helen Williams of Oakland as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Pearl's best friend, Sharon Dobernecker of Griswold who Pearl regarded as "the sister she never had."
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald on March 23, 2011, her daughter Linda and husband Roger Kennedy, her grandsons Peter and Paul Weston, her brothers and sister-in-law Raymond (Chris) Williams and Roy Williams, her nephew Donnie Weston and brothers-in-law and sister in-law Cecil Weston and Shirley (Don) Doolittle.
Memorial services will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold with Pastor Leon Hodges, Hospice Chaplain officiating. Preceding the memorial service, a visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 AM Saturday. Cremation has taken place and burial of ashes will be held in Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold.
