PAUL WILLARD LEADERS
Paul Willard Leaders, the son of Irvin and Bertha (Schroeder) Leaders, was born July 18, 1920 on a farm south of Minden, IA and passed away June 17, 2010 on the family farm near Oakland, IA at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 30 days.
Paul was baptized into the Christian faith in infancy. On December 28, 1941 he was united in marriage to Wilma Fritz of Oakland. Three children were born to this union: Patricia, Marilyn, and Danis. Paul and Wilma began farming south of Minden and in 1949 moved to the family farm near Oakland. Paul was a livestock feeder and farmed until his retirement in 1989.
Paul was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oakland. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing guitar, and volunteering to play his accordion.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Henry and Orin.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Wilma Leaders of Oakland; his daughters, Patricia Adkins and husband Tim of Omaha, AR and Marilyn Kempnich and husband Skip of Iowa City, IA; his son Danis Leaders of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren: Lael (Parker) and husband Mike Herteen of Des Moines, IA, Ryan Parker and wife Stacia of Des Moines, IA, Lisa Parker of Brooklyn, NY, Brian Kempnich and wife Me Gan of Urbandale, IA, and Bradley Kempnich and wife Liz of Davenport, IA; his great grandchildren: Lillian Herteen, Austin and Drake Parker, and Demetrius Kempnich. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 21, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oakland. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. The family will be present from 2-4 PM on Sunday. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
