Obituary

Patsy Lou Smith, the daughter of Manfred and Winifred (McKee) Shanno, was born June 26, 1944 in Council Bluffs, IA and died November 14, 2013 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 69 years, 4 months, and 19 days.


Patsy attended school in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1963. After graduating, she lived in Council Bluffs and worked for Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha. On July 24, 1965 she was united in marriage to Lonnie Smith at the Oakland Christian Church. They lived in several different places in the Oakland area. Patsy worked for the Oakland Golf Course for ten years and then the Dollar General, when it opened. Patsy moved to Oakland Manor Nursing Home several months ago.


Patsy enjoyed golfing, bowling, and going to the Casino. She was an expert when it came to making chocolate chip cookies and macaroni and cheese. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Peggy Kindhart; and her brother Jack Shanno.


She is survived by her husband Lonnie of Oakland, IA; her daughter Stephanie Copenhaver and husband Robert of Council Bluffs, IA; her granddaughter Skylar Copenhaver of Council Bluffs, IA; her sister Pam Mazetis of Oakland, IA; her brothers, Richard Shanno and wife Joan of Oakland, IA and Lonnie Shanno and wife Janice of Sidney, IA; her sister-in-law Sally Shanno of Mountain Home, AK; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Richard Bees of Oakland, IA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM, at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Visitation with the family will be at the Oakland Christian Church on Sunday from 3-5 PM. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
