Patricia "Pat" Tye of Griswold, IA, died at her home and was found Friday, August 22, 2008.
Patricia Faye Johnson was born at Griswold on April 3, 1926 the daughter of Fay Valentine and Marguerite Helen (Stellar) Johnson. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1944 with Normal training and began teaching in country schools. On February 13, 1945 she married John Elmer Tye at Atlantic, IA. John left for the service and Pat moved to Omaha and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until John's return in 1946. They farmed together and moved to town in 1977. Pat owned and operated the Sew Easy shop on Main Street for a number of years. Later, she and John were custodians at the Griswold United Methodist Church for a ten-year period retiring in 1998. Pat was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, active in the UMW, Bible study, Pairs and Spares, and enjoyed helping with Bible school. She also served on the Griswold Care Center Auxiliary.
Surviving her are her children: Gary (Ladonna) Tye and of Red Oak, IA, Randy (Marty) Tye of Elliott, IA, Laurie (LeRoy) Williams of Winchester, KY, and Dan Tye of Des Moines, IA; her 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren: [Gary] Cynthia Schwartz and children Anthony Burke, Chance Schwartz and Jasmine Elwood; William (Angie) Tye and their son Foster; and April Tye; [Randy] Sean (Nikki) Tye and children Peter and Randi; and Stacy (Derek) Williams; [Laurie] Cory (Amy) Williams and son Benjamin and Kristin (Jamie) McCleese and son Nathaniel. Also surviving is her sister Shirley Williams of Omaha.
Preceding Pat in death were her parents, her husband John on June 29, 2000, her granddaughter Julie Williams and her three sisters, Elinor Blakely, Betty Perdue and Evelyn Northrup.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church, Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in the Whipple Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present form 6:30 to 8:00 PM Monday evening.
