Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Gwinn, 67, of Griswold, IA, died Monday afternoon, May 25, 2009, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Patricia Ann Mahaffey was born on December 26, 1941, the daughter of Virgil and Bonnie (Vajgrt) Mahaffey in Kansas City, MO. The family moved to Omaha when Pat was an infant and Pat graduated from South High School in Omaha in 1959 with an Academic Scholarship. On October 7, 1961, Pat married Buddy Glenville Gwinn in Omaha. Buddy was in the Air Force and as a consequence, they lived in several places including Omaha, California, Louisiana, South Dakota, and Madrid, Spain in the ensuing years. Buddy received his discharge while stationed at Offutt AFB in 1984 and they continued to live in Omaha until 1988 when they moved to Griswold.

Pat's love for her Lord was very important in her life. She was a member of and active in the Central Church of Christ. Pat also loved people and she enjoyed working with them and helping them. Pat's legacy to the Griswold community was operating the Lord's Closet for the Griswold Ministerial Association for many years until just recently when her health would no longer permit her to work.

Pat died at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha Monday afternoon, May 25, 2009 at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 29 days. In addition to her parents, her son Scott Alan Gwinn preceded Pat in death on October 7, 1999.

Pat's survivors include her husband Buddy of Griswold, her children Christine Turack and husband John of Griswold, Dave Gwinn and wife Michelle of Omaha and HM1 Michael Gwinn (currently stationed in Afghanistan) and wife Kim of Omaha. Pat's grandchildren and great-grandchildren are John Turack Jr. and wife Jessi and their daughter Lola of San Antonio, TX, Bethany Maxson and husband Victor and their daughters Hannah and Sarah of Malawi, Africa, Angela, Caleb, Daniel, Joshua, Joseph, Seth, Matthew, and Joy Turack of Griswold; David Gwinn Jr. and Shannon Gwinn of Seattle, WA and Zakary Gwinn and Rachel Gwinn of Omaha. Also surviving is Pat's brother Robert Mahaffey and his wife Tammy of Omaha.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold at 11:00 AM, Mike Fabian officiating. Burial will be in the Lowman Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 Thursday evening.
