Orlan Cain, 73, of Griswold, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Orlan Kendall Cain was born at Carson, IA on February 3, 1938 the son of Lynn Earl and Neva Louise (Bolton) Cain. Orlan contracted polio at the age of one and dealt with that affliction throughout his life time, finally succumbing to it in his death. The family moved to Griswold in 1941 and Orlan graduated from Griswold High School in 1955. In 1956 he received his Diploma from The National Radio Institute in Washington D.C. In 1957 he started, owned and operated OK Appliance Repair Shop, specializing in the repair and installation of CB, Business Band and other 2-way communications. Orlan was married and divorced and on June 10, 1994 married the love of his life, Champagne Cheryl James at Atlantic, IA. When newer technologies arrived the business declined and in the early 2000's, he and his wife operated Champagne's, a restaurant and night club for a short time. Orlan was a member of the Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Cheryl of Griswold, his daughter Jolene M. Cain of Red Oak, IA, his stepson Charles James of Olathe, KS, his 6 grandchildren, and his sister Colleen Williams of Emerson, IA. Also surviving are cousins and nephews.
Orlan was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold, Aaron Albus of the Central Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral.
