Norene J. Duggan's Obituary
Norene Josephine Duggan, the daughter of Nicholas and Katherine (Brosius) Klosen, was born July 20, 1917 in Gandy, NE and died April 16, 2015 in Omaha, NE at the age of 97 years, 8 months, and 27 days.
Norene attended country school and then graduated as valedictorian from Gandy High School with the class of 1935. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island, NE where she received her nursing degree. Norene worked in California, Colorado, and Arkansas before returning to the Midwest. She was married to William Court Braden and they had one daughter, Barbara. William was killed in action during WWII. On August 16, 1949 she was united in marriage to John James Duggan at Stapleton, NE. Three children were born to this union: Katherine T., Terry G., and Daniel J. They moved to Griswold where they ran Braden Manufacturing near Tenville, IA. After John's death, Norene continued to live in Griswold until five years ago, when she moved to Omaha.
Norene was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. She had been in charge of the Red Cross Blood Drive for many years and had also worked at the Griswold Library. Norene was known as the official neighborhood nurse. She loved playing cards, and was even playing cribbage several days ago.
Norene is preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and her brother Joseph.
She is survived by her children: Barbara J. Braden of Omaha, Katherine T. Duggan of Omaha, Terry Duggan and wife Terri Lou of Griswold, and Daniel J Duggan and wife Donna of Omaha; her grandchildren Michael J. Duggan and wife Stephanie M., Johnny R. Duggan, and Katie Jo Duggan; and her great grandchildren Nicholas J. Duggan and Madelyn J. Duggan. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. A prayer service will be held at 4:30. Interment will be at the Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
