Nawana Loree Luxford of Council Bluffs, died May 15, 2016 at the age of 92 years, 8 months 11 days. The daughter of Leslie and Carrie Mae (Miller) Killion was born September 4, 1923. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1940, and received her RN dregree om 1953 from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing. She and Bryce Luxford were united in marriage on May 26, 1954.
Nawana lived in Oakland, IA most of her life until 2007 when she moved to Risen Son Christian Village, Council Bluffs, IA. She was a dedicated nurse, working at Jennie Edmonson Hospital, Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland and Myrtue Hospital in Harlan, IA. She was active in her church, Chapter EQ PEO, and a member of Eastern Star. She was a member of numerous bridge clubs, enjoyed watching Hawkeye Football, (or really any college) and the Chicago Cubs. She always looked forward to March Madness. She was very devoted and committed to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her next great-grandchild in July.
Nawana was preceded in death by her husband Bryce in 1980; her son Tom in 2003; her sisters Onnolee Jones in 1957 and Barbara Cecelia Hayes in 2003.
Nawana is survived by her daughters: Gail Wallin of Clarinda, IA, Renee (Luke) Northwall of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Robin (Jim) Reber of Council Bluffs, IA, Reagan (Eric) Beck, Elkhorn, NE, Lindsey (Matt) Lind of Bainbridge Island, WA, Andrew (Erin) Northwall, Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren: Adelynn, Gannon, Clara, Annette and John; nieces: Jill Fahrenkrog of Carson, IA, Patty (Greg) Wedberg of Kearney, NE; nephew Roger (Nancy) Jones of Council Bluffs, IA; and other extended family.
The family request memorials be given to Risen Son Chapel and Oakland Christian Church.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Christian Church. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
