Obituary

Jean Burnham, 88, of Griswold, IA, died Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Norma Jean Robinson was born at 5 miles west of Lewis in Pottawattamie County on May 26, 1924, the daughter of Frank M. and Ila Ruth (Reynolds) Robinson. She graduated from Lewis High School in 1941 and received Normal Training. She taught school for a short time and she and F. Raymond Burnham were married on December 14, 1944. She went to Texas with Raymond when he received his basic training in the Army and when he was discharged, they returned to Griswold and she worked with Raymond in their lifelong vocation as grain and livestock farmers in Cass County.

Jean was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and active in the UMW. She was a former 4-H leader, but mostly a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking care of her family. She loved her flowers and her family.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years Raymond on October 1, 2011, her son-in-law Donald Hering and her brother Boyd Robinson. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Dorothea Robinson and her brothers-in-law Carroll Erickson and Melvin Feigenbutz.

Survivors include her daughter Nancy Hering of Oakland, IA; her son Nate and his wife Annette of Ankeny, IA; and her 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren: Julie Hering-Kent and her husband Dennis and their son Daniel of Cherokee, IA; Brenda Windmuller and her husband Johan of Blair, NE; Carrie Ball and her husband Derrick and their daughters Raeghan and Emyrson of Omaha, NE; Tami Burnham and her partner Vince Jackson and their daughter Alayna of West Des Moines, IA; and Chris Burnham of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are her brothers John Robinson of Atlantic, IA and Leo (Arlene) Robinson of Griswold; and her sisters Helen Erickson of Griswold, Phyllis (Joe) Harper of Colo, IA and Ruth Ann Feigenbutz of Oakland and a sister-in-law Joan (Gerald) Houser of Griswold.


Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church, Pastor Dwight Grosvenor officiating. Burial will be in the Flint Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home until 2:00 Wednesday, then at the Griswold United Methodist Church. The family will be present at the church from 6:00 to 7:30 Wednesday evening.
