Mildred Elain Larimore Kearns was born on August 4, 1924 to John and Leta (Bair) Larimore in Platte County, near Monroe, NE. She attended county school in Nebraska, and after the family moved back to Iowa, she graduated in 1942 from Shelby High School.
Mildred worked in Omaha, NE and Oakland, IA before marrying George Kearns on June 1, 1946. To this union two daughters were born, Diane and Georgia. They farmed in the Oakland area until moving their family in 1952 to the farm they worked so hard to purchase southwest of Avoca.
Mildred enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking (her family had a fresh pie to eat every day). But, the greatest joy in life was her family. George and Mildred spent 13 years as "snow birds" in Pharr, TX, plus traveling in many European countries.
Mildred was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1940. She became an active pioneer in 1988. Pioneering took her to the state of Washington, and the countries of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Guatemala, and her last service area of Mexico.
Mildred passed away on the family farm on Sunday, July 13, 2014, having attained the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 9 days.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George; her sister Marion and brother-in-law Ardie Schaffert; in-laws Amy and George Hunt, Anna and Leon Bailey, and Alice and Albert Heiman.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Zimmerman and husband Philip of Avoca, IA, and Georgia Freese and husband John of Mazatlán, Mexico; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her brother Mervin Larimore of Marionville, MO; and her other family and friends.
A private family burial is scheduled for a later date.
