Obituary

Michael David Pierson, the son of Floyd and Alice "Allie" (Gillenwater) Pierson, was born January 28, 1953 in Council Bluffs, IA. He died January 5, 2016 at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha, NE at the age of 62 years, 11 months, and 8 days.


Mike attended school in Griswold, graduating from Griswold High School with the class of 1971. On September 14, 1974 he was united in marriage to Linda Diane Billings at St. John's Church south of Lyman. They lived in Oakland where Mike worked at the Oakland Beef Plant, and Pelgas, before becoming the Maintenance Supervisor at Oakland Manor Nursing Home in 1995. Mike worked at Oakland Manor until he retired in 2013.


Mike had been a member of Oakland Fire and Rescue for 27 years. He enjoyed shooting targets and collecting guns and toy tractors. Mike had restored several cars and liked going to car shows.


Mike is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law; his brothers Richard and Jack; and his sister Joan Hanson.


He is survived by his wife Linda of Oakland, IA; his daughter Erin Pierson of Chicago, IL; his mother-in-law Majorie "Gerry" Billings of Atlantic, IA; his brothers-in-law, Bill Billings and wife Sue Nail of Sioux City, IA and Larry Billings and wife Cheryl of Hancock, IA; his sister-in-law Peggy Pierson of Oakland, IA; and his beloved dog Angus. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church in Oakland. Visitation with the family will be at the Oakland United Methodist Church on Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
