Obituary

Mervin Leonard Kearney, son of William and Mona (Bates) Kearney was born on August, 21, 1916 in Oakland, Iowa. He died on November 19, 2017 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home at the age of 101 years, 2 months and 29 days.

Mervin attended country school and graduated from Oakland High School in 1935. He was married to Darlene Christensen on August 25, 1942 and they lived west of town before moving to the family farm. He moved to the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in 2012.

Mervin was a member of the Oakland Congregational Church. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Mervin is preceded in death by his wife Darlene; parents, Frank and Mona (Bates) Kearney; Brothers: Paul, Earl, Loren, and Roy Kearney; sister, Elsie Kearney Ehlert; and sister-in laws: Jackie, Mary Lou, and Clara.

Mervin is survived by children, Arnold Kearney and wife Sharon of Oakland, Iowa and Cynthia Perkins and husband Don of Cincinnati, OH; his grandchildren:  Thomas, Loree, Julie, and Michael; his great grandchildren: Skyler, Cortney, Mason and Josh; his brother Blaine Kearney; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Ann Olsen.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Mervin funeral service will be Friday, November 24, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the United Congregational Church in  Oakland, Iowa. The visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.  Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland, Iowa.
