Maxine England, the daughter of Frank and Nellie (Godfrey) Hamlin, was born February 17, 1917 on the family farm Southwest of Griswold, in the Kemling neighborhood, and died October 23, 2012 at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, IA at the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 6 days.
Maxine attended Rosehill Country School through the 8th grade and then Griswold High School. On September 2, 1933 she was united in marriage to Shelby H. England at Rockport, MO. They lived on the family farm and helped farm along with doing various other jobs. They moved to California for a short time before returning home to the family farm. Shelby died on June 18, 1994. Maxine lived on the farm until 2001, when she moved to Grant. In July of this year, she moved to the Griswold Care Center.
Maxine was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church. She enjoyed raising dogs, roses, canaries, and finches. Some of the birds that are in the aviary at the Griswold Care Center came from Maxine. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers: Vinton, Merrill, Russell, and Gerald; her great grandson Jeffery; and her son-in-law Boyd.
Maxine is survived by her children: Janet Dolch of Cumberland, IA, Norma Liddell and husband Duane of Villisca, IA, and Max England and wife Sherry of Griswold, IA; her grandchildren: Eldon, Cynthia, Linda, Stephanie, Mike, Sandy, Debbie, Randy, and Max; 18 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Maxine will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. An open visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday. The family will not be present at any specific time. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
