Maxine C. Carspecken, 92, of Griswold died Saturday morning, December 17, 2011 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold where she had been a resident since February 2003.
Maxine Caroline Brown was born at Oakland, IA, on June 27, 1919, the daughter of Verbal W. and Jessie (Brock) Brown. She graduated at the age of 16 from Oakland High School in 1936. She received her diploma from the Council Bluffs Beauty Academy in 1940 and on May 25, 1940 married Wythel "Bud" Carspecken at the First Christian Church in Clarinda, IA. They lived at Council Bluffs and in 1941 moved to a farm east of Oakland and they began farming. In 1962, she and Bud moved to Griswold and after her family was grown, she went back to beauty school and renewed her license to practice cosmetology and she opened a beauty shop in Carson. She later opened a shop here and later moved her shop to where Hair Unlimited is now. She retired in 1993 but worked some part time after that. Maxine was a member of the Central Church of Christ and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud on March 16, 2003, and her son-in-law Roger Taylor on August 10, 2004.
Survivors include her sons Dennis and his wife Jaris of Las Vegas, NV, and Richard and wife Diane of Atlantic, her daughter Marilyn Taylor of Henderson, NV, her 9 grandchildren, her 23 great grandchildren and her 2 great-great granddaughters. Also surviving is her sister Ila Gahard of Peoria, AZ and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Corlyn Scott of Atlantic, IA.
Funeral services for Maxine will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. Burial will be in the Whipple Cemetery. Open visitation is at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday evening.
