Matthew David Opbroek was born March 6, 1980, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA. He died October 5, 2024, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE, at the age of 44 years, 6 months, and 30 days.
Matt attended school in Atlantic, graduating from Atlantic High School. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University. He recently received his Bachelor of Science from Southern New Hampshire University.
On October 8, 2022, he was united in marriage to Mallory Rock in Atlantic, IA. One son was born to this union, Maddox. Matt worked at OSI in Oakland as a supply chain manager for over 21 years.
Matt enjoyed fishing, hunting, betting on racehorses, playing fetch with his dog Chief, and anything NASCAR. Matt had a NASCAR simulator in his basement and raced every Tuesday and Sunday night. He especially loved watching Mallory barrel race and playing with his son Maddox as much as possible.
Matt is preceded in death by his brothers Michael Opbroek and CJ Harmon; stepfather Craig Fusselman; and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife Mallory and son Maddox of Oakland, IA; mother Susie Fusselman of Marne, IA; father Leray Opbroek and wife Tracy of Atlantic, IA; brother Mark Opbroek and wife Theresa; sister-in-law Kari Harmon; nieces Kay Schmitt and husband Zach, Samantha Opbroek, Kaya Mullett, and Mayce Schanne; nephews Chayton Harmon and Coyle Harmon; father-in-law Dana Rock; mother-in-law Donna Bartlett and husband Jeff; step brothers Rick Killion and wife Becky; Nic and Lauryn Jefferson; Todd Killion and wife Tina, Zander and Zayda Killion, all of Atlantic, IA; and Mitch and Lance Killion of Orient, IA; and many great nephews, great nieces, aunts, uncles, friends and family.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the Oakland Community Building from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at the Brighton Township Cemetery at Marne, IA. Casket Bearers will be: Erik Sonntag, Joel Otte, Mark Opbroek, Chayton Harmon, Cole Wilson, Dana Rock, and Jeff Bartlett. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
