Matt DeWitt, 29, of Griswold, IA, died Tuesday evening, October 26, 2010, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Matthew Michael DeWitt was born at Atlantic, IA, on February 28, 1981, the son of Michael Kent and Rhonda Michelle (Evans) DeWitt. He attended Griswold area schools. Matt worked as a cook for Dusty's Place as well as other restaurants in the Council Bluffs area. He also supervised several kiosks in the Iowa City area. On August 8, 2009 he married Ashley Renee Anderson of Casey, IA at the Creighton University Retreat Center near Griswold and they made their home in Griswold. Matt enjoyed working to raise funds to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Survivors include his wife Ashley and their puppy "Sadie" of Griswold, his mother Rhonda Hafner and her husband Edward of Griswold, his father Michael DeWitt and his fiancée Jodi Booth of Red Oak, IA and his grandmothers Darlene "Dee" Hafner and LaVerne DeWitt both of Griswold. Also surviving are his uncles, aunts, cousins and numerous friends.
Matt's grandfathers Lloyd Hafner and Dewey DeWitt preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Following the services, cremation will take place. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 Friday evening. A memorial fund has been established.
