Mary Louise Galitz of Oakland, Iowa was born in Griswold, Iowa to Harley Clement and Mary Viola (Walford) Woods on December 13, 1920. She died February 15, 2017 at the Oakland Manor in Oakland, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 2 months, and 2 days.
Mary attended Wales Lincoln High School graduating with the Class of 1939. On December 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond William Galitz in Maryville, Missouri. Two sons were born to this union. They made their home near Macedonia where they farmed for several years in the Wheeler Grove area. In 1984, they made their home in Oakland. Raymond died May 14, 1991. Mary continued to enjoy her home in Oakland until she moved to the Oakland Manor on January 19, 2017.
Mary was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church in Oakland. She enjoyed playing cards, cleaning her house, and gardening where she always had a large flower garden. Mary and Raymond loved to go square dancing and was a member of two square dancing clubs.
She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond W. Galitz; her son Eugene Galitz; her granddaughter Christine Galitz; her parents; six sisters and two brothers; and three sisters-in-law's and eight brothers-in-law's.
She is survived by her son Ray Lee "Skip" Galitz of Oakland, IA; her granddaughter Melissa (John) Sorrick and their son John all of Kansas City, KS; her daughter-in-law Brenda Galitz of Council Bluffs, IA; five step-granchildren; her brothers-in-law: William "Bill" McKinley of Oklahoma City, OK and Herbert (Deloris) Galitz of Hastings, NE; her sister-in-law Phyllis Woods of Red Oak, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 5-7 PM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland.
Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Macedonia.
Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
