Marvin Basil Christensen's Obituary
Marvin Basil Christensen, the son of Joseph and Florence (Todd) Christensen, was born July 7, 1928 in Woonsocket, SD. He died June 15, 2016 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 8 days.
Marvin graduated from high school in Bemidji, MN in 1947. He moved to Oakland, IA in 1948. He works as handyman in Oakland, doing plumbing, electrical, and any other work that was needed. He was united in marriage to Norma Johnson in 1996. He retired in 2010. Marvin lived in Oakland and Little Sioux, IA, and enjoyed spending time in Texas.
Marvin enjoyed fishing, reading, camping, and doing crossword puzzles. He and Norma had enjoyed going on the annual trail ride while in Texas.
Marvin is preceded in death by his daughter Pam; his parents; and his son-in-law Daryl.
He is survived by his wife Norma of Oakland, IA; his children: Terry Christensen of Shelby, IA, Diana Thorton of Beaumont, TX, Dora Gallaher and husband Dennis of Marne, IA, Dwayne Hoeck and wife Teresa of Spokane, WA, Dayleen Nepple and husband Leon of Council Bluffs, IA, and Becky Meeker and husband Kevin of Oakland, IA. Marvin is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
