MARK HERBERT STRONG

Mark Herbert Strong, the son of Herbert James and Carol Ann (Markytan) Strong was born February 9, 1983 in Council Bluffs, IA and died January 21, 2011 at his home in Oakland at the age of 27 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

Mark attended school at Oakland, graduating from Riverside High School in 2001. After graduation, he attended college at Iowa Western where he received his Associate of Applied Science. Mark worked at Tuffy Auto Center for several years and then went to work at TD Ameritrade where he became the manager of new accounts. Mark had always dreamed of becoming a fireman so he moved to La Vista, where he became a member of the La Vista Volunteer Fire Department. Mark loved spending time with his family and friends and had recently taken a family trip to New York City. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, boating, and he was an avid Nebraska football fan.


Mark is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Albert and Evelyn Strong.


Mark is survived by his parents Herbert and Carol Strong of Oakland; his sister Emily Strong of Council Bluffs; his maternal grandparents Frank and Elaine Markytan of Columbus, NE; his two aunts, Mary Fisher and husband Dennis of Greer, SC and Joyce Steffensmeier of Columbus, NE; his cousins: John, Amanda, Sarah and Eric; and his fiancée Nicole Zimmerman. Mark is also survived by many other family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avoca. Open visitation will be held at the Oakland Community Building after 1:00 PM on Tuesday. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday evening at 5:00 PM at the Oakland Community Building followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 PM. Interment will be held at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland. A memorial fund has been established.
