Marjorie Laura Robinson


Marjorie Laura (Denton) Robinson, the daughter of Pearl and Sadie (Taylor) Denton, was born March 21, 1926 at Carson, IA and died October 10, 2012 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 19 days.


Marjorie graduated from Oakland High School as valedictorian with the class of 1944 and taught in the country schools. On August 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to Vernon Dewan Robinson at the Oakland Christian Church. They became the parents of two sons, Jeffrey Lynn and Greg Dewan Robinson. The family farmed on the McArthur Ranch for 24 years before building a home on Highway 6 where they continued farming.


Marjorie was a member the Oakland Congregational Church – UCC, and had been a member at the Oakland Christian Church, where she had sang in the choir and for many weddings and funerals. She was a Worthy Advisor of Rainbow, a past matron of the Eastern Star, a past president of P.E.O., a volunteer for sing-a-long at the nursing home for 26 years, and a member of the Botna Valley Genealogical Society of Oakland.


She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.


She is survived by her sons Jeffrey and his wife Deborah of Omaha and Greg Robinson of Oakland; three granddaughters: Mary Elizabeth, Laura Christine, and Simone Dessa; and two brothers, Charles and Lynn.



Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Congregational Church - UCC in Oakland. A private interment will take place before the memorial service. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland on Friday. The family will not be present at any specific time. Memorials may be given to the Oakland Congregational Church in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
