Marjorie Marie Bentley, age 93 years, 4 months, and 6 days died June 6, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. She was born January 31, 1923 to David "Earl" and Sybil (Turner) Chaney and raised on her dad's family farm west of Oakland, IA. She attended Country School for 8 years, graduating from Oakland High School in 1940. While in high school, Marjorie belonged to Rainbow Girls, sponsored by the Masons and Eastern Star. She was elected a state officer after High School.
Marjorie taught Country Schools for 5 years before being united in marriage to Sherwood Bentley on October 28, 1945 at the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church. They lived and worked on the farm. They were blessed with 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys, Marilyn, Bruce, Rodney, and Marlene. In their later years, they moved to an acreage when their grandson took over the family farm. They were married almost 58 years before Sherwood died on October 11, 2003. After his death, Marjorie moved to Carson.
Marjorie was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, the UMW, and neighborhood Federated Club. She taught Sunday School, was a Scout Den Mother, and a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed baking, embroidering and crocheting. They were a 4-H family; the boys fed and showed sheep and calves and taught them to lead. The children and grandchildren were in a lot of activities so Marjorie and Sherwood attended many football, basketball and baseball games.
Marjorie lived a long and happy life.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband; son Rodney; her parents; great grandson, Landon Bentley; brother, Eldon Chaney; and sister, Pauline Beedle.
Marjorie is survived by her children: Marilyn Mickey, Marlene Richardson and husband Terry, and Bruce Bentley and wife Ruby; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; one great great-grandson; her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Meyer, Lucille Bentley, and Leona Coleman; and special friend Pennie Hamilton.
Funeral services will be Friday June 10, 2016 at Macedonia United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2016 5-7 PM at Macedonia United Methodist Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
