Obituary

Marilyne Kay Steinbeck, the daughter of Chester Dale and Florence Emily (Dean) Towne was born March 6, 1941 in Red Oak, Iowa and died October 3, 2016 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 6 months, and 27 days.


Marilyne attended rural school through the seventh grade near Griswold and then attended Griswold High School, graduating with the Class of 1959. On May 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Wayne Steinbeck at the Presbyterian Church in Griswold. To this union two sons were born. They lived in several homes near Griswold before making their home where they currently reside. Marilyne was a homemaker for many years raising their children and helping with the family business.


Marilyne was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ south of Lyman, Iowa. She loved anything to do that involved the outdoors including camping, fishing, canoeing, and traveling in the R.V. She also enjoyed baking with her granddaughters, quilting, sewing, and in her younger years riding horses. But most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Jim Towne; her nieces: Beth Anne and Darci; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Clarence and Laverne Steinbeck.


Marilyne is survived by her husband Wayne Steinbeck of Griswold, Iowa; her sons: Dave and wife Tammy Steinbeck of Griswold and Robb Steinbeck of Winterset, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jeri Orstad and husband Tony, Stephanie Steinbeck, Karla Steinbeck and her fiancé Jason Wilson, and Jake Steinbeck; her great grandchildren: Easton, Logan, Emily, Kase, Auden, and Charlotte; her brothers: Curtis and wife Ruby Towne, Jerry and wife Pam Towne, Orlo and wife Cheryl Towne, and Kenny and wife Lorraine Towne; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Don and wife Sharol Steinbeck, and JoAnn Towne; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held on October 7, 2016 at 2:30 P.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ south of Lyman, Iowa with Pastor Clairnel Nervik officiating. An open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Open visitation will continue at St. John's United Church of Christ at 2:00 P.M. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 5:30 -7:30 P.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ. Interment will be held in St. John's Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Church of Church. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of the arrangements.
