Marilyn Harris
Marilyn T. Harris, the daughter of Arthur And Adele (Williams) Taylor, was born September 23, 1925 in Chicago, IL and died November 6, 2013 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 88 years, 1 months, and 14 days.
Marilyn attended school in Chicago and graduated from North Park Academy. She attended Iowa State College, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. After graduation, she taught school for one year in Mateno, IL. On June 23, 1948 she was united in marriage to Grant LeRoy Harris at Chicago, IL. They lived in Oakland for nine years before building their home on the farm. After Grant died in 2008, Marilyn continued to live on the farm for several years before moving to Council Bluffs. Several months ago, she returned to Oakland.
Marilyn was a member of the Oakland Congregational Church – UCC, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, P.E.O., and Eastern Star. She enjoyed flowers, playing bridge, and sewing. She had been very active in 4-H, serving as a 4-H leader, and had served on the Oakland Library Board.
She is preceded in death by her husband Grant on January 12, 2008; her parents; her brother Arthur W. Taylor, and her nephew William Taylor.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Virginia Harris of Lyons, IL, Susan Bentley and husband Keith of Minden, IA, and Wendy Moore and husband Luke of Omaha, NE; her grandchildren: Elizabeth Hinzmann and husband Zak of Oakland, IA, Kathryn Bentley of St. Louis, MO, Marilyn Rosen and husband Greg of Chicago, IL, Stephanie Bentley of New York City, NY, Samantha Moore of Omaha, NE, and Michael Bentley of Fort Worth, TX; and her great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Braden Hinzmann. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland Congregational Church in Oakland. Private family interment will be at the Belknap Cemetery at Oakland. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland on Friday. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 PM on Friday Evening. A memorial fund has been established. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
