Madalyn Jane Smith, the daughter of John H. and Emma B. (Potter) Smith, was born May 5, 1927 on the family farm Southeast of Griswold, and died January 12, 2015 at her home South of Griswold, at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 7 days.

Madalyn graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1945. After graduating, she worked in Griswold for the phone company and then for Eveready Battery, before moving to Omaha. She worked in Omaha for many years before moving back to the farm Southeast of Griswold. Madalyn was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February and fought it to the very end. Madalyn remained at home until the time of her death.

Madalyn enjoyed working with her flowers and in the garden.

Madalyn is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marianne.

She is survived by her brother Charles W. Smith of Griswold. She is also survived by many cousins other relatives and friends.
