Lucy L. Guttau, 82, of Council Bluffs, IA, died Sunday morning, July 31, 2011, at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs.

Lucy Lorraine Steffen was born at Griswold, Iowa, on October 20, 1928, the daughter of Henry Benjamin and Blanche Lorena (Clark) Steffen. After her schooling at Griswold she worked for Hansen Egg Company and on May 6, 1949, was married to Ray James Guttau at Davenport, IA. They lived at Griswold for a short time until moving to Red Oak where both of them were employed at the Union Carbide Plant. Lucy also worked for Murphy Calendar Co. They moved to Oakland, IA in 1959 and there Lucy worked at the Oakland Packing Plant and later was manager of Jac's Steak House. Ray died on March 2, 1972. Lucy went to work at the Excel Beef Plant in Denison and retired from there at the age of 65. She moved to Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs four years ago when her health began to fail. Lucy was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. She enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Australia and one trip to England. She enjoyed going out to eat and while in the nursing home, enjoyed joking and interacting with the staff.

Survivors include her sons Darryl Guttau of Carson, IA; Scott Guttau of Council Bluffs, IA; and daughter Marsha Guttau of Oakland, IA; her two grandchildren - Eric Adams, and Jessica Adams Guttau; and her great-granddaughter Xhloe Collins all of Council Bluffs. Also surviving are her brothers Paul (Cleo) Steffen of Griswold, Wayne "Slim" (Jeanne) Steffen of Greenfield, IA; and Marvin "Sam" Steffen of Corning, IA; and her sisters Mary (Bill) Davis of Glenwood, IA; Jane (Basil) Reppas of Cedar Falls, IA; and Janet (Paul) Martinez of Arvada, CO; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Lucy in death were her parents, her husband, brothers - Clark and Boyd Steffen and sisters - Aletha Acord and Harriette Steffen.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be at the Waveland Township Cemetery northwest of Elliott. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home and the family will be present form 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening.
