Lucille Marie Bentley, the daughter of Alexander and Jennie (Rucker) Blanchard, was born in Twin Buttes, South Dakota on August 27, 1918.
She died at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home on April 23, 2017, at the age of 98 years, 7 months, and 27 days.
Lucille grew up in South Dakota, living in a sod house that her father built and going to country school. After the death of her father in February of 1939, the family moved to Oakland area where she worked as a housekeeper. She and Walter were united in marriage on December 4, 1948, at the Congregational Church parsonage. To this union, three children were born: JoAnn, Lyle and Dale. Walter died in 1988, and Lucille continued living in Oakland until her death.
Lucille was the oldest member of the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, crossword puzzles and listening to music. She loved to quilt and embroider tea towels and pillow cases. Lucille was an excellent cook and baker. She was known for her cinnamon twist rolls!
Lucille is survived by her children: JoAnn Wendt of Elliott, IA, Lyle (Peggy) of Oakland, IA and Dale (Colleen) of Omaha, NE; her brother and sister-in-law Harold (Doc) and LaVinna Blanchard; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; her sister, Phyllis Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Memorials may be donated to the Oakland Sharon Presbyterian Church or the Oakland United Methodist Church.
